Framing Proceeds Apace.

From the point of view of the casual observer, these days proceed with a fair amoung of regularity: every day, more walls go up! Naturally, it's not as simple as all that, and there are setbacks and challenges along the way- but for the most part things are going remarkably smoothly, I think- and quickly!

As of the other morning the entire garage was pretty much framed, although plywood still needs to be put up. But we have the whoooooole long wall of the side of the new house up:

You can see the disconnected gas line near the top of that picture. We only lost gas for a day, though. Then Sam and Dan reconnected the gas line... whew!

A whole bunch of 'smaller' details have also been attended to, such as extra supports against the edge of the house (I'm sure they have a crucial purpose, but I don't know what it is!)...

... above the crawl space...

...connecting the "new" structure to the "old"...

... and cutting down the excess pipes (that had been sticking up in the middle of the garage) that will bring electricity to Sam's lifts.

Also, special hardware ties had to be attached to the exterior walls:

And there is a whole pile of lumber that is the 'reject' pile- it isn't as long as it should be (!), and needs to be exchanged at Dixieline. You can see it here, on the left... with all the white stickers on it.

More walls went up, though! Specifically, an interior wall- the one that will contain the garage bathroom and the compressor room:

Here is Sam inside the "compressor room", tightening bolts:

Then Sam and Dale framed in the door to the compressor room.

The Simpson shear walls come equipped with special hardware...

... but all of the walls (and especially the doorframes) have a fair amount of metal in 'em!

It is beautiful, I think. And very exciting. It's all happening so fast, we're going to have to rename the blog "off like a herd of cheetahs"!
